At Challenge Dyslexia we offer targeted specific interventions and support for learners with dyslexia and literacy related difficulties. We aim to provide students with a plethora of tools, techniques and strategies to help them overcome the challenges that dyslexia can present to learning. Sessions comprise of a variety of multi- sensory activities and exercises, designed to promote relational learning, which cumulatively form firm foundations upon which new learning can be built, whilst promoting self efficacy and learner independence which are aimed at boosting confidence and attitude to learning.
How it works
An initial placement session is undertaken which consists of diagnostic activities specifically designed to highlight areas of weakness . Placement findings are then analysed and interpreted in conjunction with additional information from teachers/ parents / learner and an individualised tailored programme is devised, specifically designed to target areas of weakness as highlighted within the placement. This is revised and adapted session by session, as the learner makes progress.
Specific areas of difficulty which can be targeted:
- Phonological difficulties: Weak grasp of phoneme/grapheme links – implausible spellings/ inconsistent spellings
- Punctuation & syntax weakness
- Suffixing
- Poor decoding
- Slow processing (auditory / visual/ phonological)
- Working memory deficits
- Difficulty retaining sequences of information
Many dyslexic learners struggle with motivation and confidence and through using specific techniques and interventions we aim to boost learner confidence and boost motivation.
